Forming an Employee Succession Plan

Most organizations don’t consider what they would do if an important employee suddenly left. They’re faced with so many immediate challenges that preparing for a hypothetical problem doesn’t seem like the best use of resources.

However, people move on from jobs all the time, including experienced senior-level employees. They might accept a new opportunity, start their own business, or simply get to the age when it’s time to retire. In other instances, someone’s life circumstances can change in an instant, forcing them to resign from a job they had no intention of leaving. A hypothetical “what if so-and-so left?” can become a reality on any given day.

Talented leaders in your organization are not easily replaceable. They’re not only good at what they do, but they also understand all the company’s operational nuances. They know the right way to do things and have established relationships with the people they work with.
